Advent Calendar

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love the twinkle lights and the coco, the cozy nights in and the corny movies, I just love it all. Every year I make a list of all the winter activities I want us to do leading up to Christmas, but as with most "to do" lists it gets pushed aside, and before I know it all the presents have been opened and we're packing up the tree. So to change this, I started making us an advent calendar. Scott and I split up the month and write a Christmas activity to do each day, this way we have a whole month filled up with holiday surprises. I thought I would share how I made our advent calendar this year since it's pretty cute!

What you'll need:
25 glass ornaments
paint pens
fake snow

*I used small sized glass globe ornaments which worked fine, but a larger size would be a lot easier to work with!

Start by putting the fake snow inside the ornaments with a funnel, you could also use tinsel or glitter if you prefer. Then use the paint pens to write out the days on each ornament, I used the gold pen to add some decoration and color.

Then comes the fun part, think up all of the daily activities for the month and write them out on little scrolls of paper. I taped these up so that they wouldn't unroll inside the ornament and become impossible to get out...yes I had to get one stuck to find this out! After you add in all of the paper scrolls you can decorate the tree with all of the ornaments.

Now comes the hardest part...waiting for December 1st! Happy Holidays!

Property Scaity

In our new apartment we have a spare room that up until now was working full-time as a junk room...most people just have a junk drawer, but we take it up a notch with an entire room. It is home to out of season clothing, empty boxes and a few things that have yet to be unpacked. Since we are having some visitors in the next few weeks we thought what better motivation to get this room in tip top shape.

We talked about how we want this room to function and realized that most weeks out of the year this room will be guest free so it mainly needs to work for us and then the occasional visitor. This made getting a daybed over a full size bed an easy choice, it was the Hannah Montana of options...the best of both worlds. It can function as a couch when it's just me reading or working and when we have guests it can be a bed, with an additional pull out trundle bed.

I came up with a few room designs, and we ended up agreeing on this one. One design I came up with had a unicorn head to hang on the wall, that got a quick veto from Scott. Luckily it made the fox pillow look very cozy in comparison. Hopefully we will have the big pieces all set up in the next few weeks. Then I just have to work on sneaking a unicorn head in here...I'll keep you updated.

These songs have been playing in my head all week, especially the Taylor Swift one... I've even caught Scott singing it!

1. Shake It Off - Taylor Swift (I may also be mildly obsessed with the music video!)
2. Stolen Chance - Milky Chance
3. The Galway Girl - Steve Earle
4. Snap Out Of It - Arctic Monkeys
5. Just One Drink - Jack White

Albus Mac

Al is the littlest one in the family and also the messiest. He likes shoes about as much as I do, except he prefers to eat them and I prefer to wear them. He loves to hide in the bathtub and would prefer to sleep on the coffee table if we'd let him. He's the funniest guy around and makes our family feel complete...even Fender agrees.

He's been asking for a wand, but Yoda will have to do for now.

Fender Nox

Meet Fender, he is the most handsome pup I've ever seen. He likes leaves more than squirrels and could play with a shadow for hours on end. He loves to snuggle and sleeps with his head on a pillow in the exact middle of the bed. He is a crazy little guy and we love him so much!

Also, those puppy dog eyes are his specialty.

Fall Is In The Air

Fall is my favorite time of year, and even though technically it is still summer, I can't help but get excited. I love the chilly breeze, apple cider, colorful leaves and pumpkin flavored everything. I also have an obsession with boots and scarves, so the cooler weather really agrees with my wardrobe. I've decided to make a bucket list of sorts for this fall. We know next to nothing about our town, literally I know how to get to work and how to get to Target, and that's about it. So it'd be a lot of fun to find some new places, not to mention driving around here is just about the prettiest thing ever with all of the trees and rolling hills (or maybe they're mountains, I'm not sure)

1. Go to the cider mill
2. A crunchy leaf walk with the pups
3. Lots of pumpkin and apple flavored drinks and sweets
4. Decorate pumpkins
5. Get some new tall boots
6. Cook some autumn meals
7. Eat a lot of Halloween candy (somehow I don't think that will be difficult)
8. Dye my hair darker
9. Do at least one of my pinned fall projects
10. Get cute costumes for the pups

This BuzzFeed article is spot on, considering almost my entire list is on there. And I agree, my favorite color is October.

You're Golden

Our first anniversary has come and gone but I still have a few more posts to do on our wedding. It's been a year since then, but I am still obsessed with how pretty it was and how much I really ended up loving all of the little details.

One of the DIY projects that I had my heart set on were gold animal place card holders. I searched around and found lots of tutorials and ideas on how to make them. We took a few tips and tricks from different tutorials and did what worked best for us. We bought the animals at a local party store and then cut them all in half. Then we painted them with craft paint by hand... I wouldn't recommend painting them by hand, it took us F-O-R-E-V-E-R! Once it started getting a little too close for comfort to our wedding date and they still weren't done we enlisted the help of our friends, they were awesome.

After they were painted we glued mini magnets on the each side, so they would be able to hold our guests' place cards . Our wedding coordinator then placed an animal with the place card at each of our guests' seats. It all looked so magical and enchanting, if I do say so myself!

We made sure to save some for ourselves so we could use them as magnets at home. My brother and sister also may have gotten a few extra at our wedding, so they had enough of them to make an appearance at last years Thanksgiving dinner.

This was our invite, my friend Molly painted the picture and she did such a great job. I love little Fender! (check our her blog!)

So Far

We've been here for a little over two weeks and things are finally starting to settle down and feel like normal again. While we still have a bit to unpack our main living areas are all set and I can finally cook dinners again. Along with unpacking and starting our new jobs we also had a lot of celebrating to do. Scott's birthday was our first weekend here and our ONE year anniversary was the next! We ventured out to some new restaurants for both occasions and they turned out to be hits. Hopefully, PA will start feeling like our new home soon, I think the holidays will definitely help with the warm and cozy feeling. And now for a picture overload! Some of them are a little fuzzy, I still have to unpack the camera charger.

Saying goodbye to our home was so hard. It really was the best, little home I could have asked for. It was also really hard to take a good selfie with our house in the background, after the fifth try we said good enough and hit the road.

The pups definitely loved hotel living!

A very happy birthday filled with Sheetz breakfast, cute pups and the BEST chicken wings ever.

We found Michigan beer! Now, if we could only find some McClure's pickles.

His favorite spot in the new apartment. I left it empty for as long as possible but it soon got filled with kitchen gadgets... Sorry Al!

He ordered a salad at dinner. A salad with kale, roasted carrots, beets and wheat berries. Where has my husband gone!?

The best fondue ever!

We spent our actual anniversary at a food truck festival. It started pouring about half an hour after we got there, so we ate some pork fritters under a truck awning... romance at its finest.

Leaving The Mitten

This week we are packing up our home in Michigan and getting ready for the move to Pennsylvania. It has been a crazy, hectic week full of flooded basements, tearful goodbyes and a super messy house. Pennsylvania you have a lot to live up to... I hope you are ready.

I Believe In Nashville

A little while ago Scott and I drove down to Nashville for a quick vacation. We were itching to get away and Nashville promised delish food and was only an eight hour drive. We basically ate the entire time we were there, which was fine by us. Scott got his pulled pork, coleslaw and mac one night and I got my biscuits and gravy the next morning (along with some Chick-fil-A on the way down, it may just be one of my favs!) We rented out a room on music row from airbnb and it worked out perfectly. We loved Nashville so much that about six hours of our drive home was spent figuring out how we could move there, it's just that cool. Hopefully we fall for Pennsylvania just as hard! Here's to hoping.

Neither of us are big country music fans, but we loved all of the live music. After day drinking on Broadway and touring the Country Music Hall of Fame I think you could call us slight fans, well I don't know about Scott, he's a rock guy.

The absolute best meal of my entire life. I ate six biscuits and a piece of pie for breakfast dessert...yea, it's a thing.

We listen to a lot of music over here and favor putting a record on over watching TV. Scott plays guitar so he's either strumming away or has something playing. Recently we started treating ourselves to one new record a month and it has been fun growing our collection. I thought I would start a new series of the songs I can't get out of my head each week. This week..

1. I Wanna Be Yours - Arctic Monkeys (this whole album is was my pick for July and we have been playing it non stop)
2. Big Black Car - Gregory Alan Isakov
3. The City - Madeon
4. I Need You - M83
5. Out Of My League - Fitz and The Tantrums

Shoes and Suits

For our wedding I made sure to pick a pair of shoes that I could wear again and again and not just for that one night. And while I might own more than enough heels, they aren't really my favorite type of shoe. I prefer flats and knew the last thing I wanted to be worrying about during the night were sore feet! My mom bought me these sparkly, strappy sandals from J Crew and I could not love them more. They are super comfy and add a bit of fancy to anything I pair them with. It may not be practical for me to wear my wedding dress out anymore (but wouldn't that be fun!) but I can definitely slip on these sandals and be reminded of our day.

Scott on the other hand can wear his suit on other occasions and not look crazy. And lucky me because he looks pretty handsome in that suit. He also got his suit from J Crew.

Last weekend we went to a friends wedding and wore our wedding reminders. We also got to listen to some Michael Buble, which was awesome since our song is My Everything. We didn't get the best picture, but we made sure to snap an usie (us + selfie)!

And a quick shoe photo at home...a shoeie.

More Pie, Please

I had been wanting to make crack pie for quite a while now, but kept putting it off because it felt too daunting.  I'm not a pie baking virgin, but I am definitely pretty new to the whole process. It's the crust part the really gets me, I can never roll it out into the correct shape, so it always ends up looking like a patchwork quilt. But this recipe doesn't call for a rolled out crust, oh no, that's not tasty enough for a crack pie. This crust is made from crushed up, homemade oatmeal cookies that are then mixed with even more butter. Yea, it's even better than you are imagining. And the inside is so rich and creamy that you literally cannot stop eating it. It sort of reminds me of a pecan pie without the pecans. Give it a try, it really isn't as hard as it seems. Your hard work will be rewarded in the me. And if not send the pie my way, no hard feelings.

I used this recipe from Bon Appetit and it turned out perfect. I didn't make any changes, even though I was tempted to cut the chill time down. Enjoy, and let me know if you think it lives up to it's name!

The Bloom Workshop

Back in June I attended The Bloom Workshop put on by Michaela and Ashley, and I absolutely loved it.  I learned so much about blogging, photography and styling and got to meet some really cool ladies in the process. The whole day was so pretty, it's like it was out of one of my girly daydreams. Half of the day was spent taking notes and listening to presentations from the girls on how to make our blogs and small businesses more successful and the second half was spent putting our styling and photography skills to use. Seriously I never thought note taking could be so interesting! I also got to meet one of my fav bloggers, Tieka and she was super cute and so nice.

If you have any interest in blogging or just want to meet some like minded girls who appreciate the pretty little details in life, I highly recommend going! The yummy treats and swag bags alone make it worth it!

I am now on the hunt for gold utensils, they are so whimsical and dreamy! I think they would add the perfect amount of charm to our rustic dining room table.
